The Corporation for Public Broadcasting brings publicly appropriated money to the public radio and television system… which is now more than TV and radio, so we call it the public MEDIA system… and, so, yes, CPB is all in favor of a multi-platform approach to public service programming for Americans.
Thus, we have, a new $5-million investment in station training, to be run by the much-respected Poynter Institute in St Pete, Florida.
If this spending seems like an obvious need — and rather surprising it didn’t happen long ago — many would agree.
Still, change can take time. I’m glad to see the investment. Let’s hope it isn’t too late to serve those audiences that are drifting away from broadcasting… or those that never needed it in the first place.
